Great Munden Recreational Garden

Feedback on the Bat Talk which took place on Saturday 21st August

This was a great turnout which attracted a 30 strong crowd, with some people travelling from as far as Buntingford, Ardeley and Wood End.

With the help of one colleague and a friendly small pipistrelle bat, Roger delivered a very interesting talk using slides and videos to a captivated audience and was delighted to answer everyone’s questions.

Thereafter, the party moved over to the Village Hall Recreational Garden for the Discovery walk part of the event, armed with bat detectors and torches.  This definitely was the highlight of the evening for children and adults alike as they searched excitedly around the garden for bats and successfully spotted a few pipistrelles on site.  Everyone had a fun time and the rain luckily stayed away until after the event had ended.

Positive feedback has since been received from the happy audience as well as from our guest speaker, Roger, and I am happy to report that there are already talks of a repeat event next summer… 😊

Many interesting facts were shared, such as the reason behind the Bacardi Rum bat logo.  Dona Amalia Bacardi saw the unexpected tenants inside their first distillery as a good luck charm and recognised their use as sugarcane pollinators.

The trustees would like to thank everyone who attended and generously donated to both Roger’s charity, HMBG and the Great Munden Village Hall charity.
